A promotion group from Gainesville called House Hats Collective has been taking Thursday nights in Jacksonville by storm and inviting local DJs in on the fun along the way.
Locals, such as UNF student Rebecca Kobrin, have been getting involved as well. She started promoting for their events after friends reached out to her, has attended all of the Jacksonville events thus far.
“I’m really excited to see where it goes,” she said, explaining how the house music scene in Jacksonville has been more underground, but now she sees it coming into the mainstream. “Every week, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
UNF student Gabe Soh, who goes by Sohlo, is one of the artists that perform at the Jacksonville House Hats events every week. He got started DJing in his bedroom in 2016, and gradually moved to playing fraternity events, and opening up smaller one-off concerts for bigger named artists.
“House Hats has been the most consistent performing I’ve ever done,” he said, “and I’m really excited to see more of a local scene here in Jacksonville. It’s always been there for headliners, but now we’re doing something really special.”
