The Rise of Silent Discos

By: Reid Murphy

Silent Discos are an event where music is broadcasted by a DJ of sorts, to a collection of wireless headphones, creating a dance party that is perceived as silent to those not participating. This concept dates back to the 1960s when wireless headphones were invented. Since then, Silent Discos have grown in popularity.

In the past five years, Silent Discos have really taken off. The Covid-19 Pandemic moved the world of entertainment outside and wireless headphones became a popular way to participate in a group experience while social distancing. Hush Hush Headphones, a Silent Disco company in Jacksonville, Florida, has grown immensely during this time, curating Silent Disco events all over the city. These events are family friendly and take place in just about every neighborhood in Jax.
